Langdale Chase Hotel

Langdale Chase Hotel, Windermere, Windermere, Ambleside and Central Lakes, UK

The Hotel
Originally built in 1895 as a private country residence. The Chase was opened as a hotel in 1930 and has been welcoming guests back ever since.
The house stands in 6 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens which slope gently down to the shores of Lake Windermere.
The Langdale Chase is a truly magnificent country house hotel, which commands panoramic and inspirational views of Lake Windermere and mountains from the seclusion of its own wooded grounds. Just three miles north of Windermere and two miles south of Ambleside, it is situated in the heart of Lakeland.

The foundation stone for the building itself was laid in 1890, and the house took some five years to complete. It was first opened as a hotel in 1930. However, there are artifacts in the hotel, which date back as far as 1664.

Large imposing rooms, oak-panelled and mellowed with the years, a collection of fine oil paintings, ornate carved fireplaces and the magnificent oak staircase tell their own story of a hotel rich in history and character.

Blessed with so many architectural and decorative examples of our heritage, not to mention hidden treasures, such as the original mosaic floors in the porch, laid by craftsman brought over from Italy, the house is listed as one of national and historic interest.

Bedrooms
All bedrooms are individually and tastefully furnished. Many have Lake Views and all have private bathrooms.

The hotel also boasts a unique bedroom. This particularly romantic room is situated over the boathouse, where you will be lulled to sleep to the sound of gently lapping water.

Dining
Panoramic views invite you to wine and dine in our restaurant, perhaps preceded by a drink in our intimate cocktail bar. Designed to complement the setting, the variety of food and wine is sure to delight the most discerning diner and being pampered by our attentive staff will be one of the many highlights of your stay with us.
Lunches and afternoon teas are available indoors or out on the lawn-fringed terraces. Dinner is always a special occasion and our restaurant boasts a fine speciality selection in addition to the delicious Table d?hote dinner menu.

Gardens
The grounds of some six acres slope gently to the Lake. They were planned and laid out by Thomas Henry Mawson, a landscape architect of international distinction, who was responsible for the ?Palace of Peace Gardens? in the Hague.
The Hotel?s reception rooms and terraces enjoy some of Lakeland's most spectacular panoramic views. The gardens at Langdale Chase are a riot of colour all year round, but May is a particularly spectacular month when the garden is ablaze with flowering azaleas and rhododendrons.
As you explore the woodland walks and lakeshore paths you will see why the Hotel?s gardens are some of the most perfectly set in the whole of Europe.
Langdale Chase enjoys one of the longest garden frontages to Lake Windermere and guests can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Lake, with its water skiers, steamers, sailing boats, traditional charr anglers and World Water Speed Record attempts in the Autumn.

Activities & Attractions
The Langdale Chase is ideally situated for the enjoyment of all lakeland activities. The hotel has two jetties for boating and, if you don't have a boat, one can easily be hired for your stay. Water skiing lessons are available within 100 metres of the hotel. Or why not let someone else do the work and take a cruise on Lake Windermere on one of the beautiful steamers and launches.
