Hazelwood

Hazelwood is a lovely Victorian house with a sunny aspect. It sleeps ten in one king, one double and three twin bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a dining area. The sitting room has a piano and open fire.
The panoramic views from Harter fell right round towards the coast are enlivened by the passage of the 'laal ratty' minature railway which runs in the middle distance.
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea - Irton Road station is just a five minute walk from Hazelwood.
There are five pubs in the valley (the Bower House Inn is just a ten minute walk away), all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop and post office is just ten minutes walk from Hazelwood and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers, as well as outdoor clothes and equipment.
