Mireside Farmhouse

Located in the Bassenthwaite meadowlands below Skiddaw, Mireside Farmhouse is a unique combination of rural tradition and modern comforts. The solid stone house is a 17th century listed building which rigorous National Park Authority standards maintain fully in character, to the extent of preserving some charming peculiarities. The interior has been tastefully furnished in a modern style. It is carpeted throughout, with the exception of a beautiful sandstone floor in the kitchen and a rugged slate floor in the boot room.
The kitchen has quality fitted units with ample cupboard and shelf storage space. It is well equipped to cater for eight, with a large fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, electric hob and fan oven. There is a large solid wood farm table in the kitchen area with seating for eight.
The living area is open plan with the kitchen / dining area, creating a lovely feeling of spaciousness. The focal point of the room is the original fire surround, now containing a functional wood-burning stove. The room also has a TV and radio. There is a separate sitting room / games room, with a second TV, video, and plenty of games.
The boot room, which is generally used as the main entrance, has a washing machine and tumble drier (un-metered), and plenty of wet gear hanging space.
Up the stone steps (mind your head on the low beams!), there is a large double room, and three twin rooms with views to Skiddaw, Ullock Pike and the Keswick fells. A cot is available free of charge. There is an upstairs bathroom with shower, and a second shower room plus toilet downstairs.
Mireside Farmhouse has oil-fired central heating which very effectively heats the whole building. The interior restoration was recently completed so the fittings and furnishings have an attractive new quality, and the cleanliness is maintained to a very high standard.
Exterior
On arrival at Mireside Farm, first impressions would suggest that it was still a working farm. The surrounding fields are grazed by sheep and cattle, and some feral chickens patrol the farm yard. The fine wide cobbled courtyard provides ample parking, and there is more secure parking in the selection of recently renovated farm buildings surrounding the courtyard.
There are large lawns front and back. In the secluded main garden area, there is outdoor furniture, a barbeque, a stream flowing past ancient fruit trees, rope swings?..could you get more idyllic?
